Holiday months are somewhat of a challenge, because I’m always slightly tempted to go all out for the holiday every week. Realistically, I know if I fill my planner with four weeks of orange + black, pumpkins and bats I’ll be over Halloween before I even buy a bag of candy corn.
So, this October I’ve been challenging myself to decorate my planner with color schemes that work with orange, without focusing on orange as a main color. This week I’m working with navy + pink in my Be Bright Happy Planner™.
Most of the stickers I used this week are from the me & my BIG ideas Color-Coordinated Value Pack. I love how easy this pack makes it to create an awesome layout. If I didn’t have any other stickers, I could easily work with just these. That’s great news for planners decorating on a budget, because one value pack will last a long time!
Lately, I’ve been cutting full box stickers into thirds and using the smaller strips like washi tape. On this page, I’ve used those trimmed stickers to create headers for various boxes, and as a banner for a circle sticker.
When I’m placing headers on my layout, my goal is to add a little color and to create visual balance on the page. I’m careful not to put two headers next to each other, unless they’re working together like the weekend header.
I treat every week in my planner as an opportunity to experiment and try new techniques. This means my style is always evolving, because I find new things I love. Recently, I’ve been playing with overlapping stickers and decorating outside the boxes. I’ve found these two techniques create more visual interest and make my layouts a little more unique.
