If I’m being honest, I usually avoid Halloween decor.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not anti-Halloween by any means. I love dressing up. I love candy. Hocus Pocus is one of my top five favorite movies. I’m definitely a fan of Halloween.
But, when it comes to seasonal decorating, I usually prefer to stick to fall things that I can leave out until Thanksgiving. It makes me feel like I’m getting more use out of my seasonal things.
All of that rambling to say, this project originally started as a fall project. I planned to use mambi AlphaSticks to write “Happy Fall, Y’all” on the patterned paper. I fell in love with these Halloween stickers in Hobby Lobby and changed my mind. If you’re anti-Halloween, or you just prefer to stick to fall decorations that’s a way to switch this project up to fit your taste.
This DIY is pretty simple. I used Mod Podge to adhere a page of mambi Sheets to a wood slice. I added a little washi and some mambi Sticks Halloween stickers.
I wanted the finished product to loosely look like a pumpkin, so I kept that in mind when picking the paper. To complete the look and simulate the look of a pumpkin stem, I decorated a small, wood rectangle to coordinate with the wood slice, and adhered it to the back of the top with Turbo Tacky Glue.
A note about this project: I wanted more of an imperfect, natural look, because I thought that went with the theme of a wood slice that looks like a pumpkin. Because of this, I more or less just guessed when I was cutting my paper to fit the wood slice.
If I were doing it again, I would go for a slightly more polished look. I would have traced wood slice on the paper and then cut about an inch inside the circle.
